Syro-Malabar Catholic priest and syriacist, scholar and church historian

DR. THOMAS KOONAMMAKKAL | മല്പാൻ കൂനമ്മാക്കൽ തോമാക്കത്തനാർ |Koonammakkal Thoma kathanar is an Indian Nazrani priest and scholar of the St. Thomas Christian community. He is a member of the Syro Malabar Church in the eparchy of Palai. He had his studies in Rome and holds Masters degree (1998) in Syriac studies and Ph. D in Patrology from Oxford Univeristy (1991) . He is the founder of Beth Aprem Nazrani Dayara and is a strong advocate of Aramaic/Syriac heritage and traditions in the Syro-Malabar Church. He is also a theologian, liturgist, orator, professor, ecumenist, and author. He is a Syro-Malabar Catholic priest and syriacist, scholar and church historian. He is an expert in Karshoni Malayalam and is the author of the most comprehensive introduction to Malayalam Karshon. He has also authored several critical articles on Early Christianity and on the works of Saint Ephrem.

At present he is working as the professor of Syriac Studies and Patrology in SEERI, Kottayam; and at Paurastya Vidyapithama, Vadavathoor, Kottayam. He is author of 40 plus articles in English and 35 and more articles in Malayalam.
